My Doctor Appointment Today

I had my monthly doctor's visit today. It was a fairly regular appointment, but this was the "fun" one where I got to get the glucose test and get the rhogam shot. And for some reason, all the doctors here (at least the ones I've been to) like to make you drink the glucose drink there at the office instead of drinking it at home an hour before the appointment. So when I got there, I told them I was doing the glucose test and they asked me which flavor of drink I wanted: orange, fruit punch, lemon-lime, or cola. I opted for the lemon-lime, since I've had orange and fruit punch before. In case you're wondering, no, it doesn't make it any better to have it in different flavors. It's still pretty gross.

After I drank the glucose drink, I sat down and waited for a few minutes before they took me back for my regular exam. That part was all normal. Dr. Lowder did tell me that with my last blood draw, my titer level did go up a tiny bit. So he's going to watch for the numbers from today's blood draw and hope that they didn't go up again. If they did, I get to schedule another appointment, probably for next week, and get an ultrasound to check the umbilical cord blood flow and for signs of anemia. Other than the level going up a tiny bit, everything looks good and normal.

After the exam, I got to sit out in the waiting room for another half hour or so until the hour was up and they could take my blood. Luckily I bought myself a book at the store the other night, so I had something to keep me occupied. And the time went faster than I thought it would. They called me back to the lab area (just a little room off the front reception area), took their 4 vials of blood, then gave me the rhogam shot. The phlebotomist gave me the option of having it in the arm or the hip. Having had both, I opted for the hip. It's better in the hip. I was pleasantly surprised when it didn't burn going in like it usually does. It did start to sting a bit on my way to the elevators, but not too bad.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, I did tell my doctor about when I got all light-headed in the shower 3 weeks ago. He said it was because my blood vessels all opened up and my blood pressure dropped. He said that if you're even a little bit dehydrated, it can happen pretty easily, so to make sure I get plenty of water and keep the temperature in the shower a little on the cooler side. So nothing to worry about.

So everything looks good at this point. I should know within the next couple of days if my titer levels went up again, so if I hear from the doctor, I'll post again and let you know.

Oh, and just for fun, I thought I'd post these pictures for comparison. In the first one, I was 30 weeks along with Daniel. In the second, I'm 28 weeks along with this baby.

I told you that you would have more fun. ;)

I guess I lucked out, my doctor has sent it home with me both times (in all three offices, yes the math is right even though it looks wrong).

Gee, I wonder why the outfit in the second picture looks so familiar. :) Kind of funny, but I don't think you look overly huge in either picture.

Congrats on the baby. I've not checked your blog for a while. I scrolled down to find out what baby is. How exciting for you!
